D-Day

After much planning, packing, and partying, March 19th (D-Day) finally arrived.  We loaded up the U-Haul and drove to Brunswick, Georgia.

IMG_3866image We stopped at St Augustine along the way to pick up some curtains, unfortunately the cushions still weren’t ready.  We arrived at dusk just in time…for a swarm of biting mosquitos, no-see-ums, and some sort of large kamikaze gnat.

We raced to the boat.  You have to run with your mouth closed or end up with a mouthful of bugs.  The kids and I unloaded the van into the boat trying to time opening and closing the companionway door. Hard to do without speaking –(refer to the whole open your mouth and the bugs fly in statement). Meanwhile, Kim made an emergency trip to Home Depot to buy screening material and velcro tape.  Despite spending most of that evening and the next morning trying to install screens, it didn’t work, and all the screens ended up on the floor. We still haven’t figured out how to get the screens installed so we have to close up the boat at dawn and dusk.  But we have Plan B, Kim went to Walmart yesterday for more supplies and is going to try something else.  In the meantime, we are getting eaten alive.
