We had a beautiful trip to Hilton Head, SC. The weather was hot, but with a nice breeze while underway. The anchorage just on the inside of Hilton Head Island was beautiful and was without much ambient light to conceal the glory of the night sky.
In my excitement to hoist the anchor light I forgot to tie a rope on it to bring it back down. The next morning Ben got to go up the mast to retrieve it.
The next day we took off for Beaufort, SC. There was a fixed bridge that didn’t have any placard to mark its height. It was just too scary to try and go under the bridge, we really couldn’t be sure we would make it and had a 3 knot current pushing to boat towards the bridge. We decided to play it safe and so we dropped anchor to wait a couple of hours for the tide to go down. The kids did some swimming to cool off. We blew up floats and had the kids keep their PFDs on and hang onto lines tied to the boat so the current wouldn’t take them too far away.
FUN! I so remember boating when you were a kid with our friends and all you kids would jump in whenever we stopped. Glad Ben and Aislin are having these experiences–you and Kim, too! The adventures of a lifetime!
