We started out the day with Aislin and Benito making homemade corn tortillas for breakfast. Sylvia from Eos drove up from Brunswick and picked up Benito to bring him back home. He is flying home to Japan for several months. We miss him already and look forward to his return.
Benito escaped just in time. We spent the rest day getting the electronics installed on the boat.
I have one thing to say about Savannah, it is HOT!!! It doesn’t help that there is a record breaking heat wave going on.
Time to sing along:
“Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heart
Can’t keep from cryin’
It’s tearing me apart”
According to the thermometer it was 100.5 in the shade by the clubhouse, which as our only close source of air conditioning closed way too early at 5 pm. When we are en route we at least have a breeze, but sitting at the dock all day at this marina, the sides of the river block any air movement and the heat is oppressive. We don’t have air conditioning on the boat and while there is a small 9 inch DC fan in each cabin, there is only 1 little 9 inch fan to plug in for the kitchen and salon.
Here is the weather forecast:
“Savannah, Ga. (WJCL)- * Heat advisory this afternoon*
The morning is starting off very muggy and warm. The temperatures this morning are in mid to upper-70s.
No change in the forecast today there will be more heat and humidity this afternoon. The highs are going to be in the upper-90s to near 100 degrees for most areas and lower-90s at the beach. The humidity will be extreme making the “feels-like” temperatures 102-106 degrees. There will be a slight chance for a shower or storm in the afternoon.
The heat wave is going to continue through the end of the week. The highs are going to remain mid to upper-90s through the weekend.
Try to stay cool today,
Jonathan Myers”
Wow-wee are we ever hot.
We spent day 2 in Savannah on a trolley tour. We didn’t want to leave Brooke on the boat in this heat so we searched for a trolley tour that would be dog friendly. Most of the tours advertise that they allow dogs, but with further investigation we learned the dog has to remain seated in your lap. None of us wanted a 60 lb panting dog in our lap, so we were excited to find Oglethorpe tours that would let Brooke lay at our feet. This tour has you do the complete 90 minute loop and then they allow you to get on and off. At first we thought that would be inconvenient, but we were so hot it was refreshing to sit for 90 minutes in the shaded trolley with a breeze looking around Savannah. It ended up not being inconvenient at all, the nice thing about their on/ off is you can call them and they will come pick up you and drop you off at any stop.
