We had an early start leaving Beaufort for Charleston. We knew it would take most of the day and didn’t want to be arriving after dark. I had my morning coffee on the trampoline with Brooke at my feet, what a perfect way to start the day!
Kim spent some time with Aislin, teaching her ICW navigation and how to drive the boat.
It was a long day of travel and we spent the night at the Charleston City Marina. . They put us on the very end of the Megadock. On the same dock with us were huge yachts worth megabucks.
We didn’t care for the megadock. It came with a megacurrent, megawakes, and a megawalk to take the dog to potty (more than 1/2 a mile). The first thing we had to do when we arrived in Charleston was take a taxi to West Marine to buy bigger fenders because we were getting beaten against the dock so bad. We asked to go on the inside but they said they don’t like to put Catamarans on the inside of the dock.
When we returned from dinner a good Samaritan on the catamaran in front of us had rearranged a couple of our fenders because the current had shifted and our bow was rubbing the dock. We put out every fender we owned and 2 extra lines but still had a rough night. Although the no wake zone was posted before the marina, most passing boats didn’t slow down until they got passed us, in plenty of time for the megayachts (that are so big they can’t feel it anyway), but we took the brunt of all those wakes.
Of note, one of those megayachts in the photo is for sale. The price was reduced by $300,000 to $33.7 million. What a deal!
