Titusville or bust!

Finally, the engine was replaced in the boat and we had our much anticipated departure. The plan was just to head south. ICW for now, we’ll see down the road when we get there. First stop–Titusville. We passed under the familiar Dunlawton bridge, which looks a lot different from the underside. The clearance was almost 64 feet, our mast clearance is 63 feet 2 inches. Ben taped the experience.

After the Dunlawton bridge we went under the North and South Causeways of New Smyrna Beach. The North Causeway is a single span bridge–not my favorite, makes me nervous crossing just to the left of center.

This is our old stomping ground from back when we used to take our bowrider to disappearing island. We arrived in Titusville in the late afternoon and dropped anchor.   The kids and I dropped the dinghy down to take the dogs ashore for a potty break.  There wasn’t a good place to tie up the dinghy or walk the dogs, the dinghy was almost out of gas, and the wind and waves beat us up on the way back to the boat.  I returned from this outing aggravated and had a mini-meltdown.  Kim was so sweet, she just weighed anchor, called the Titusville marina around the corner, and we spent the night there—sheltered, nice dog walking area, fuel dock to get gas for the dinghy.  Thank you, Kim.    It ended up fortuitous–we ran into an old friend we had met at a marina in St Simons–big shout out to Sherry and her Golden Retriever Roger!

I cannot be within 15 miles of Titusville without making a trip to one of my favorite restaurants, Dixie Crossroads. Known for their rock shrimp and confectionary sugar dusted corn fritters it is a “Don’t Miss” experience. We settled the boat, called a taxi and thoroughly enjoyed stuffing ourselves.
