Bahamas!!!

Finally our trip to the Bahamas! We got up at 3:30, left the mooring ball by 4:15. Then navigated our way across Biscayne Bay and out the channel in the pitch black dark to the ocean then started our crossing. Initially there was no wind or waves—we had to motor. But as the day went on the wind picked up and we were able to sail the last 3 hours. Although we trolled we didn’t even get a bite. In total it took us 10 hours to travel from Miami to Bimini. We took turns at the helm, as this is part of our class we didn’t use the chart plotter or autopilot— all compass and papercharts.

Kim went ashore and cleared us through Customs and Immigration and then we proudly swapped out the Q flag for the Bahamas courtesy flag. The kids and I then went exploring, walked down to a beach a few blocks across the island.

Not sure what all those zigzags are, but we definitely ended up in Bimini

Wow!

  1. Your staying 3 months?

    • We will leave in June, but figured we’d get approved for the whole 90 days from the get-go so it isn’t an issue later

  2. What is a Q flag?

    • So happy that everybody is happy:) We will miss you more at Easter dinner!! Have a great time & be sure to dive some wrecks for treasure. Love, Bud & Sally.

    • “Quarantine”. We fly it as soon as we enter foreign waters and it indicates that we have not yet cleared Customs and Immigration.

  3. Yay! I’m so proud of you and happy for all the Kelleys!
