Normans Cay is famous for its sunken airplane. The story is that this island was used by a drug cartel in the 1970s and 1980s to smuggle cocaine from South America into the US. Around that time one of the small propeller planes crashed into the water, and now it has become a tourist attraction and artificial reef. We anchored in a little strip of deeper water right near the sunken plane.
We had a great time snorkeling the wreck.
The anchorage is also surrounded by beautiful beaches. We took the dinghy and explored, even brought Skipper and let him run around and play.
We found sand dollars and beautiful shells. We all returned back to the boat starving and exhausted after having so much fun.
Our next part of the trip will be in the Land and Sea Park, which is mostly uninhabited and doesn’t have cell towers, so I warned the kids no internet for the next week or so. That spurred them into action–texting friends, downloading music, (I hope they also contacted their teachers). Kim and I did phone updates, weather updates, and I checked all our mail and bank autopay activity. It was like preparing for an impending technology apocalypse. We’ve been really spoiled with the Island Wifi on this trip.

Ha, yeah, we also went into wifi panic mode before the land and sea park. There actually is internet, but its pretty slow. We didn’t make it to Normans, but it sounds great! Miss you all! ☺
