Nifty Fifty

I am so blessed. For my 50th birthday two of our friends, Debi and Roxanne, flew in to spend it with us. Debi and I share a birthday, so we had twice as much fun celebrating together. And did we ever have a fun week!

We picked them up at the airport in Georgetown. It was about a 30 minute drive plus another 20 minute dinghy ride to the boat in Barraterre.

As Roxanne explained it, “The water is so clear and beautiful it looks like liquid ice!”

Deb and Roxanne stayed a week, so it gave us time to explore many of the islands just north of Georgetown.

We went to Leaf Cay and saw some iguanas. While there a guide boat also came and one of the tour guides got the iguana to climb on his arm so we could pet it. Not that you could get me to pick up or handle one of those things, they might be vegetarian but they have really big teeth. We learned that their technical name is the Northern Bahamian Rock Iguanas. There are three cays where these iguanas can be found: Allen’s Cay, Southern Allen’s Cay, and Leaf Cay. But these animals aren’t found anywhere else in the world outside of those three cays in Exuma. When the iguana was done eating the cookie in the guide’s hand it decided that Roxanne must have the next treat and went to jump on her. She stepped back so fast she landed flat on her back. Fortunately it was soft sand. And the iguana didn’t eat her.

We also spent time at Lee Stocking Island. There is a short path to an overlook of the Atlantic Ocean. On my birthday morning Kim and I went up the path to watch the sunrise. I could have spent all day there, and in fact went back later that day and for sunrise the next day with Ben and Roxanne.

Aislin decorated the boat and baked a cake for our birthdays.

Happy 63 and 50!!! (the candles had some meltdown issues)

There are so many beautiful anchorages around Lee Stocking Island. We went snorkeling and found a huge sea star.

We played on the beach.

We went and swam with sea turtles at Little Farmer’s Cay.

Deb and Roxanne both took turns at the helm and helped with boat chores.

Before you jump to conclusions and think all we did was put our visiting crew members to work here is some proof otherwise.

And a good time was had by all.
