After several long days at camp we decided to have a day of fun. Our friends from Scholé are leaving Guatemala in a few days and wanted to go to this local site one last time. It is called Finca el Paraíso. We hired a driver to take us for the 30 minute drive in his van.
There is a minimal entrance fee, then a short walk on a path through the woods, to a waterfall paradise.
The water coming down the falls is hot, so hot you can only go directly under them for a few seconds. The water we were standing in is cool. There is a slight odor of sulfur, but not overpowering or unpleasant, certainly nothing like the sulfur springs in Florida.
There were small shallow caves under the overhang of the falls that the kids explored. The even convinced Kim and I to swim around in them. Very cool, next time we go I’ll bring the underwater camera and get some shots.
We spent a couple hours just relaxing. We saw some other people using the mud as a mask, so sent Ben to the top of the falls to get us some too. Our skin sure did feel soft when we rinsed that mud off, I might need to do that once a week. I think Kim might have done it twice, she looked about 35 years old by the time we left.
There were little fish that kept nibbling at our legs and feet. Kim liked it, I guess they are used for exotic pedicures, but they kind of freaked me out.
We definitely want to come here again.
Looks great! Temps here going down into the teens.
Fun times! Bring some of that mud back for me!
We were thinking we could put it in glass bottles. print some fancy label with a picture of the waterfall, and make some money selling “all natural facial mask from the hot springs of Guatemala”. 🙂
